Description:

Sometimes we receive special requests from partners seeking help and MARS is always committed to helping whenever, and wherever, we are able.

The picture you see is a dog that lived in South Korea on a "meat farm" who barely escaped death. This is not a creative stretch at the truth to convince you to adopt a dog.  Their story is very real.  These dogs were raised to be sold for human consumption and one of the farms that these dogs were rescued from included it's own slaughter house.

These dogs have only known starvation, squalor and loneliness.

This particular group of South Korean survivors is a bit different in that they were the ones that no other rescue wanted.  They were left behind by every other rescue partner.

They are beautiful souls who deserve a chance and are not left behind discards.  They have been living in a shelter for a couple of months, working with staff on a daily basis.  Now they are ready to find the person that will see beyond their horrific past and love them for all that they are and will be. If you give these dogs a chance, you too will have a life changing experience.

*The farms that these dogs came from have all been shut down.  The cages were destroyed and the farmer signs a 20 year contract that he will not breed any animals and is provided job training to transition into a different career.

Kopi – Inside that terrified ball of matted fur that arrived from Korea is a bouncing boy puppy ready to play and entertain! He would definitely do best with a friendly, playful dog who can show him that people are good and worth trusting. He comes to me for pets and treats, and even when nervous of unfamiliar noises. He fought the crate at first but now is a champion crater. He’s great with all animals and just LOVES to wrestle. He’s been neutered and finished his HW treatment except for a few more weeks on the pred. He’s big into toys as well and will take all his favorites back to his crate for hoarding (but has never shown any possession or protectiveness). He’s still not fully house-broken, perhaps because my house has some incontinent animals so we’re regularly cleaning and there’s likely always a faint smell that encourages him to mark. But he comes and stands still nicely for his belly band applications and has the cutest little face like, “yea….I know…”. He can easily be leashed and handled but still will not walk anywhere with the guidance of the leash. I think if someone had the time to use food rewards to encourage this, he’d learn quickly. I’ve just been maxed out lately. But anyone can carry him and he’s compliant with that mode of transport at the moment. The staff at the vets never had any issues with him.

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
