Description:
Meet Kirby!!

Poor Kirby never lived in a home until he was 4 years old! He's been in various shelters and rescues, always watching the other dogs leave, and never getting the chance himself. All of the applicants for poor Kirby wanted him for the wrong reasons...so he stayed in rescue. Kirby was rescued and was living in a foster home. Kirby's rescue has asked for help from MARS to find a forever home for this boy. Kirby is settling in to his new foster home with MARS and is beginning the search for his forever home.

UPDATE FROM KIRBY'S EMERGENCY FOSTER: He's really doing great. He has learned sit, lie down, and shake pretty well. He gets along great with Bodie (foster parents young pit bull pup) and is fully potty trained now! He's fantastic with my 7 year old and really just loves to be in the middle of any action going on. Never even pays attention to our cat. His favorite thing to do though is just be wherever we are and that is usually right in our laps, haha, he thinks he is Chihuahua sized I guess. He's great on a leash. Our puppy isn't so great at it yet so when they walk together the excitement gets a bit contagious but Kirby calms down quick. He's a fantastic car rider. He does jump a bit when we first get home but with no attention he calms down really quick. I've heard him bark or whine maybe a total of five times since he's been here...he really is a quiet dog.

He'll make a fantastic pet for someone. We do not let the dogs eat too close together without supervision. Early on when he ate he seemed to be really hyper vigilant as to what's around him as if he was worried someone might take it. But in time we have gotten him to relax and eat leisurely now. He is such a sweet boy and would make a great companion for someone who would show him lots of love. He has gone to gatherings with us with a lot of people and was perfectly fine - ate up all the attention of course. Even though Kirby does well around other dogs, he may enjoy a home of his own, because he requires so much affection from his humans.

Can you find a place in your heart and home for Kirby?

When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.

Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters.

How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet.

Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks.

Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance.

Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.

If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history.
