Heyya Folks!
The name is Maverick, and I'm glad you decided to check me out! I was picked up as a stray and turned into a local impound. They found out I was heartworm positve, so I underwent treatment and therapy for months to get over it. I survived though and now I am as healthy as a horse! Speaking of horses, did you know my breed likes to herd those big things?!? Yep! I am an Australian Cattle Dog, also referred to as a Blue Heeler.
Typical of my breed, I am VERY smart. I know all my basic commands- sit, stay, come, lay down, off, etc. and I even know more! When my foster mom says "sneeze" I do it! She is working on teaching me to weave in and out of legs on command and who knows what I will learn after that! I catch on REALLY quickly to learning new things! Because of this, I would really like to go to someone who has the time and energy to continue working with me on physical and intellectual stimulation.
The great thing about herding breeds, is we have lots of energy but it is focused energy. Unlike the lab/springer/dane/other breeds who just run, run, run....us herding dogs store our energy for a purpose...a job! So, if I am not given a job to do, I will find one. This is why I would not do best in a home with really small kids...sometimes I think they look like sheep and I want to group them together. Can't blame a guy for doing his job!
As for other dogs, I tend not to mind them as long as they are mellow. I have showed some alpha tendencies, so please make sure any canine siblings are not extremely high strung or dominant, and we should do just fine!
If you are looking for a companion who is sweet, smart, and in need of a best friend- you have found me! Please fill out an adoption application for me so we can meet and I get the opportunity to SHOW you how wonderful I am!
See you soon!
Love,
Maverick
Can you help a sweet boy who needs a second chance?
